Bryan Husk

Return to band bios

Bryan HuskWhen Bryan was eight years old he went to a high school football game and saw a shiny tenor sax in the marching band. He thought it was the coolest piece of machinery he'd ever seen. When he had the opporutnity to join band in sixth grade with his parent's generous support, he finally got a chance to get his hands on a saxophone!

For nearly thirty years, Bryan's played the sax with love and enthusiasm, today performing with The Jimmys in the band's horn section, The Amateur Horn Stars. In fact, his passion for music has been a driving motivation all his life. He plays many instruments, including keyboards, guitar, bass, in addition to the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxes. His interest in making music has led him to the lifelong pursuit of building a home recording studio for writing, arranging and DJing his own projects as "DJ Funkysax". All of the horn parts for the latest Jimmys CD were recorded and engineered at his "Funky Sax Shack."

Prior to joining The Jimmys in 2009, Bryan blessed with the opportunity to play with Clyde Stubblefield's band for six years, performing around the state and every week at "Funky Mondays" in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. An equally influential musical mentor and friend has been Roscoe Mitchell, the world reknowned saxophonist, composer, arranger and creative artistic force with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, who for many years happened to be a neighbor down the street. The experience of playing with both Clyde and Roscoe has been forever influential, valued and appreciated!

When Bryan is not touring and performing in support of The Jimmys, he enjoys an active lifestyle that includes smiling and laughing with his wonderful wife and family.
